ROTTERDAM -- Prolific Chilean filmmaker Raul Ruiz will be the "Filmmaker in Focus" at January's Intl. Film Festival Rotterdam.

The tribute to Ruiz will unspool films from his early years in Chile to his exile in France including the recent "Ce Jour-La" (That Day).

Sidebar Homefront USA will explore how filmmakers and artists are reflecting the political climate in the U.S., including the effect of 9/11 on the average American. Among the lineup of films are Palme d'Or winner "Elephant," by Gus Van Sant, and "Bright Leaves," Ross McElwee's look at the tobacco industry.

Power: Play, IFFR's Exploding Cinema sidebar, will focus on the growing overlap of work and play, politics and fun, and the influence of visual artists and filmmakers who have explicitly borrowed from games culture.

Fest unspools Jan. 21-Feb. 1.
