Davis named WABC prexy

Exec previously at WPVI in Philadelphia

ABC on Wednesday named J. David Davis to take over as president and general manager of WABC-TV in Gotham, replacing Thomas Kane.

Davis arrives at the Alphabet's New York owned-and-operated station from Philadelphia, where he was prexy and general manager of ABC's WPVI.

"Dave's proven track record in management and local news at three diverse ABC properties -- most recently in Philadelphia and earlier in Raleigh-Durham and Houston -- make him a natural for this top post at WABC-TV," said Walter Liss, president of ABC's station group.

Net reps wouldn't comment on Kane's departure. He had been serving as prexy and G.M. since 1996.
