Sony, P.O.D. partner on CD/vidgame combo
'Payable' playable only on Playstation 2 console
P.O.D.'s "Payable on Death," set for release Nov. 4, will include a custom videogame track from the PlayStation 2 music game "Amplitude" in the first million copies shipped. Game features the P.O.D. single "Space."
Playable only on the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, disc will also feature 50-minute documentary "Inside P.O.D. Culture" and a feature on Daniel Martin Diaz, the artist who created the paintings and sketches for the album package.
The two-disc set will not see its suggested list price of $19.98 increased.
"This is a breakthrough in the way we market music," Atlantic co-prexy Ron Shapiro said. "This is only the first in what we hope will be a series of innovative, consumer-driven projects designed first and foremost with the fans' interests and desires in mind."
Created by Harmonix Music Systems, Amplitude takes advantage of the consumer's videogame/rhythm skills and allows him to re-create the song via the PlayStation 2 analog controller. Concept of the game is to allow anyone to build, remix and rearrange the song's individual tracks.
