'Nip' tucked atop cable ratings
Skein has difficulty topping 'Special Victims Unit'
NEW YORK -- America's favorite plastic surgeons continue to pile up the Nielsen numbers.
On Tuesday at 10 p.m., "Nip/Tuck" drew 3.5 million total viewers on FX, beating every other program in the time period except a repeat episode of NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
But "Nip/Tuck" couldn't pass it in two key demos: "SUV" wound up first overall in the timeslot in adults 18-49, with 2.4 million, and in adults 25-54 (2.3 million).
After eight firstrun episodes, "Nip/Tuck" has established itself as the top-rated new basic-cable series this year in adults 18-49 (an average of 2.2 million), adults 25-54 (also 2.2 million, on average) and households (an average rating of 3.04).
"Nip/Tuck" has demonstrated unusual consistency, averaging a 3.0 household rating or better for seven of the eight weeks.
Strong competish to come
But that consistency is likely to shatter next week, when "Nip/Tuck" faces off against original episodes of "SVU," ABC's "NYPD Blue" and CBS' "Judging Amy."
Firstrun episodes of "Nip/Tuck" will continue to air each Tuesday through Oct. 21. FX already has renewed the series for a sophomore season.
