Sean Kimerling

WPIX New York sportscaster

Sean Kimerling, a sportscaster for WPIX New York, died Tuesday Sept. 9 of complications from testicular cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. He was 37.

Westchester County native received his bachelor's degree from Georgetown U. in Washington, D.C., and earned a master's degree in broadcast journalism from USC.

He joined Gotham's WPIX Channel 11 as weekend sports anchor for "The WB11 News at Ten" in December 1997 after similar jobs in Texas and Oklahoma. He also appeared on WPIX weekday news broadcasts as substitute for weekday sports anchor Sal Marchiano and served as a commentator and reporter on WPIX broadcasts of New York Mets baseball games.

The Mets marked his passing at a home game with a moment of silence.

He is survived by his parents, a brother and a sister.
