Edwards inks with ABC

Studio to develop half-hour laffer for thesp

ABC and Touchstone Television have inked "Saturday Night Live" alum Dean Edwards to a talent holding deal.

One-year pact calls for the studio to develop a half-hour laffer for the comic thesp or place him in one of its pilots targeted for the 2004-05 season.

Edwards left "SNL" in May following two seasons as a featured player on the NBC latenight skein. During his run, thesp imitated a slew of famous folks, including Chris Tucker, Denzel Washington and Colin Powell.

In addition to regular standup gigs, Paradigm-repped Edwards has appeared on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend," "Def Comedy Jam" and "It's Showtime at the Apollo." He's also supplied several voices for MTV's "Celebrity Deathmatch," including one for Spike Lee.
