Cinema Guild rolls with 'Laughter'

Gotham distrib sets dark Icelandic comedy for fall

The Gotham-based Cinema Guild has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Icelandic director Agust Gudmundsson's "The Seagull's Laughter," a dark comedy set in a fishing village outside Reykjavik. Pic will be released this fall.

Set in the early '50s, film stars Ugla Egisdottir as a woman who returns to Iceland from the U.S. to settle down with distant relatives and remains a mystery within the household.

At the Icelandic Film & TV Academy Awards, "Laughter" won film, screenplay, lead and supporting actress kudos.

Cinema Guild's recent releases include Aviva Slesin's "Secret Lives" and Robert Connolly's "The Bank," starring Anthony LaPaglia.
