It happens all the time to us reporters. But is it possible for a composer-lyricist team to get scooped?

In act two of "The Thing About Men" is a big scene where a scruffy, long-haired struggling artist gets remade into a hip, spikey-cut fashion plate. As played by Ron Bohmer, the character is a replicant of Butch/Brian from the first episode of Bravo hit "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."

At the La Ramba post-preem party Aug. 27, "Thing" lyricist Joe DiPietro and "Thing" composer Jimmy Roberts commented about the striking similarity.

"Our show was first staged in 1999," Roberts said.

"These things happen," DiPietro told Daily Variety.
