Two Danish films will have their world premières in competition, including Jesper Nielsen's "The Bouncer" and Torben Jensen's "The Tenth Muse."
Starring Iben Hjejle, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Per Oscarsson, "The Bouncer" is the real-life story of a doorkeeper who fulfilled his father's dying wish by taking his dead body on a motorcycle ride in Copenhagen.
A telefilm produced by pubcaster DR-TV, "The Tenth Muse" depicts the life of Denmark's first international star, Asta Nielsen, played by Vera Gebuhr.
Turkish director Ferzan Ozpetek's "Facing Windows," U.K. director Emily Young's "Kiss of Life," Spanish director David Trueba's "The Soldiers of Salaminas," Swedish director Anders Gustafsson's "Scratch" and Norwegian director Bent Hamer's "Kitchen Stories" are also contenders.
Greek director Theó Angelópoulos will preside over the jury, which will include -- among others -- Swedish director Jan Troell and Danish director Bille August.
The fest will screen 130 films in competition and 11 sidebars, including New Neighbors, Hollywood Nights, The Other America, Orient Express, African Explosions and War Zones.
Organized on a $1.4 million budget, mainly supplied by the Danish Culture Ministry and the City of Copenhagen, the festival is managed by Janne Giese and programmed by Michael Soby.
