'Cupido' takes wing

World Brief

Columbia TriStar will open "Didi, o cupido trapalhao" (Didi, the Goofy Cupid), vet comedian Renato Aragao's 42nd pic, on Friday.

The $2.1 million kidpic will open with 250 copies, a large release by local standards. Diler & Associados produced, with Ara-gao's son Paulo Aragao Neto helming.

"Didi" is an attempt to revive what was once the most important franchise in Brazil. Aragao's pics have sold 120 million tick-ets since the 1970s, but his last pic was a failure. "O Anjo trapalhao" (The Goofy Angel), released in 2002, sold just 150,000 tickets.

In "Didi," Aragao plays an angel who must unite a couple.
