D'Works: Hasbro's got game

Co. plans plush products, board games, puzzles

NEW YORK -- DreamWorks on Friday named giant toymaker Hasbro as worldwide master toy and board game licensee for upcoming animated pics "Shrek 2" and "Sharkslayer."

Films are due out in June and November 2004, respectively. Merchandise usually hits the shelves a month or two before. Hasbro said it's planning a range of products in boys, girls, creative play, plush, board games and puzzles.

News comes as Hollywood studios gear up for Licensing Intl., the giant three-day trade show that unspools in Gotham next week. Some 425 exhibitors will showcase 5,500 properties looking for licensing and merchandising deals.

With the plethora of comicbook, action and kid-friendly pics continuing into 2004, showbiz will be out in force, with exhibitors including DreamWorks, Walt Disney, Warner Bros., New Line, Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, Paramount, MGM, Marvel, Nickelodeon and Discovery Communications.

Hasbro brands include Playskool, Tonka, Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers.
