Kring rings up deal

Vet scribe reups with NBC in 2-year pact

Veteran scribe Tim Kring has reupped at NBC Studios, inking a new two-year deal to develop series programming and continue as exec producer of "Crossing Jordan."

Kring created "Jordan," a crime drama starring Jill Hennessy that bowed in fall 2001. Skein will return for its third season this winter, following Hennessy's pregnancy.

NBC Studios topper Ted Harbert called Kring "an extremely gifed writer and creator."

"We look forward to many more years of 'Crossing Jordan,' as well as Tim's next hit," Harbert said.

Wrote for 'Providence'

Before he created "Crossing Jordan," Kring caught the eye of Peacock execs in 1999, when he joined the writing staff of the net's since-canceled "Providence," serving as co-exec producer of the series. A year later, NBC Studios inked Kring to an overall deal; that pact led to "Crossing Jordan."

Scribe also produced this spring's Peacock pilot "Sunset Division," a "Crossing Jordan" spinoff that didn't snag a fall order.

Kring said he was glad to be staying put in Burbank.

"I can't think of a better or more creative place than NBC," he said.

Before "Providence," Kring co-created the short-lived ABC drama "Strange World" in 1998. His other credits include an exec producer stint on "L.A. Doctors" and a year on "Chicago Hope."

Kring's career began in 1985, when he sold a pitch for an episode of the Peacock actioner "Knight Rider."

Scribe is repped by Endeavor.
