Caviezel chips in on 'Cut'

Naim to helm, pen futuristic film

Jim Caviezel will star opposite Robin Williams in sci-fi thriller "Final Cut" for Lions Gate Films. Pic goes into production June 29.

Written and to be directed by tyro filmmaker Omar Naim, pic is set in a world where implanted microchips can record all moments of an individual's life. The chips are removed upon death so the images can be edited into something of a highlight reel for loved ones who want to remember the deceased. Caviezel portrays the leader of the organization that opposes this technology's development.

Nick Wechsler produces the project, with Guymon Casady exec producing. Lions Gate's Marc Butan oversees the project.

Caviezel most recently portrayed Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson's "The Passion," which is now in post. He'll next be seen in New Line Cinema's "Highwaymen," skedded for an Aug. 27 bow.
