Mouse munches 'Made in Italy'

Project inspired by Italian social phenomenon

Disney's Buena Vista Motion Picture Group has acquired the romantic comedy spec "Made in Italy" from former "3rd Rock From the Sun" writer Julie Sherman for low six against high six figures.

Pic is inspired by the Italian social phenomenon known as "il mammoni" -- male bachelors still living at home in their 30s and 40s, with mothers still attending to their washing, cleaning and cooking -- a phenom profiled on the Eye web's "60 Minutes" newsmag two years ago.

Story follows a thoroughly modern businesswoman who falls in love with a seemingly perfect Italian man while abroad on business. Their relationship is complicated when she learns the extent to which his mother in still involved in his life.

"Chicago" exec producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadon's Storyline shingle will produce, with Travis Knox overseeing its development for Storyline. BVMPG exec Karen Glass will supervise for the studio.

Sale marks a first for Sherman, who penned the film spec after her last gig as a story editor on the WB's "Baby Blues" ended. She was repped by managers Anonymous Content and the Jim Preminger Agency.
