Eight documentaries round out the June 6-12 offerings along with a week of "Movies Under the Stars" in front of the Palace of the Popes, and a concert presentation of F.W. Murnau's silent classic "Sunrise" at the Avignon Opera house.
Cinematographer Ellen Kuras will be honored by a mini-retrospective of "Unzipped" (1995) by Douglas Keeve, "I Shot Andy Warhol" (1996) by Mary Harron, "Summer of Sam" (1999) by Spike Lee and "Blow" (2001) by Ted Demme
U.S. features in competition are "After Freedom" by Vahe Babaian, "All Night Bodega" by Felix Olivier, "Briar Patch" by Zev Berman,"Hollywood Buddha" by Philippe Caland, "Interview With the Assassin" by Neil Burger, "Last Ball" by Peter Callahan and "Melvin Goes to Dinner" by Bob Odenkirk.
Event president and founder Jerome Henry Rudes, a transplanted Texan, began the fest as the French-American Film Workshop. Rudes stages an annual sister event, "Avignon/New York," in Manhattan.
