Ackerman to polish 'Jewels' for remake
Lewis played seven parts in original laffer
Project centers on an orphaned rich girl who must choose between relatives who are fighting for custody of her while discovering that her chauffeur is also her best friend.
In the original film, Lewis played seven parts, including the chauffeur/bodyguard of a 9-year-old girl and the six uncles seeking to "adopt" her and her $30 million inheritance. Lewis played a circus clown, an airline pilot, a fashion photographer, a private detective and a gangster.
Original script for the remake was penned by Eve Ahlert and Dennis Drake. Nickelodeon film execs Ricki Spector and Julia Pistor are overseeing the project.
Ackerman, repped by Writers & Artists, received screenplay credit for "Ice Age" along with Michael Wilson and Michael Berg and also penned Columbia's "Jumanji 2." His first play, "Things You Shouldn't Say Past Midnight," directed by John Rando, received an Off Broadway commercial run in 1999.
