FFF, Sodec make regional partners

World Brief

By ED MEZA

Bavaria's state film subsidy board, FFF Bayern, inked a bilateral agreement with Canuck cultural funder Sodec of Quebec to expand cooperation in film and TV between the two regions.

Pact -- announced by FFF topper Klaus Schaefer and Sodec prexy Pierre Lafleur during Montreal's Bavarian Film Week, which wrapped Wednesday -- calls for greater contact between Bavarian and Quebec filmmakers, increased support for German and Canadian films in each other's markets, jointly organized confabs and info on government film policies.

The agreement followed a deal between Munich-based animator Trixer, Quebec's Vivavision and Ireland's Magma Films to co-produce "Lilly the Witch," based on the children's books of German author Knister. Pic has already received e550,000 ($643,429) from the FFF.
