Martin adds studios ops to Sony brief

Exec has been with Col since 1981

Gary Martin has been named president of studio operations for Sony Pictures, a title he will hold in addition to that of production administration prexy of the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group.

Martin, who will continue to report to Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chair Amy Pascal, will manage day-to-day operations of Sony's Culver City lot.

Reporting to Martin will be Jack Kindberg, prexy of studio operations and administration, and Michael Kohut, president of post-production facilities.

"I'm not sure if Gary will ever forgive me for talking him into taking on this role, but I will be forever grateful to him," said SPE chairman-CEO John Calley.

Martin will continue to oversee all aspects of physical and post-production, from development to release, on all features for Columbia Pictures, Revolution Studios and Screen Gems.

Martin joined Col in 1981 as production manager and was promoted to VP of production in 1984. In 1988, he was named Col's president of production administration and, in 1995, was promoted to CTMPG's production administration president.

Martin began his career at 20th Century Fox and later held various positions with independent film companies.
