Nielsen joins 'Scary 3' cast

Studio greenlit next installment in franchise

NEW YORK -- Drawing on the actor's indelible association with the spoof genre and his history with director David Zucker, Dimension Films has cast Leslie Nielsen in "Scary Movie 3," currently lensing in Vancouver.

Also a recent addition to the cast is "The Practice" star Camryn Manheim. The comedy sequel is slated for domestic release Oct. 3.

A veteran of such Zucker-directed parodies as "Airplane!," "Naked Gun" and "Naked Gun 2½," which were precursors of the hit "Scary Movie" franchise, Nielsen joins Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards, Anna Faris, Simon Rex, Anthony Anderson, Eddie Griffin, Regina Hall and Jeremy Piven in the third installment.

Dimension recently greenlit "Scary Movie 4," which is scheduled to start production in June for a first-quarter 2004 release. The first two "Scary Movie" entries collectively grossed $228 million at the domestic box office.
