Japan wished anime character "Astro Boy" a giant happy birthday Monday, the fictional date the futuristic robot was created, with a relaunched TV series, fireworks and a display of a $1 million, 32-karat, diamond, ruby and emerald doll at Tokyo's Mitsukoshi Department Store.
"Astro Boy" was created as a super robot in a comicstrip 50 years ago and was the first Japanese anime to hit the U.S. market in the early 1960s.
