Naomi Watts and Heath Ledger return to Sydney for the 'Ned Kelly' preem. |
About 200 fans (mostly teen girls) and a substantial media throng flanked the red carpet. Industryites, cast, crew and their families filled three cinemas for the most anticipated local release since "Moulin Rouge."
The movie, about Australia's much-fabled outlaw Ned Kelly, lensed in Victoria last year for Working Title Australia; it will be released Stateside by Universal.
"Ned Kelly's" Sydney preem marked day seven of a round Australia tubthumping for the director and cast, including Joel Edgerton, Phillip Barantini and Laurence Kinlan.
Co-stars Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom did not attend.
Barantini and Kinlan worked the red carpet as a double act. The Irishman Kinlan later recalled -- with mock distress -- how the duo had been beckoned to the edge of the red carpet by some excited girls, only to be asked breathlessly, "Where's Orlando Bloom?"
