MONTREAL -- The Toronto Intl. Film Festival is set to unveil an ambitious project to create a new home for the event, its offices and the fest-run Cinematheque Ontario.

Details and an architect for the project will be announced at a press conference in Toronto on Tuesday. However, the new center is expected to include a four-screen cinema, a film-themed boutique, a cafe and museum space to house traveling cinema-related exhibitions.

Fest honchos hope the new headquarters will be a unique film center for the public and the industry. It will accommodate the film library, which will move from its present home in a high-rise beside Maple Leaf Gardens, and the Cinematheque Ontario, which will leave the Jackman Hall at the Art Gallery of Ontario, which it rents for screenings

Cinemas in Toronto's Yorkville area -- including The Varsity and Cumberland cinemas -- will continue to handle many fest screenings.

The fest will face a shortage of screens when the three-screen Uptown cinema on Yonge St., a fest mainstay for years, closes after this year's event, which unspools Sept. 4 to 13.
