Barry L. Sherman
Sherman, a telecommunications professor at the U. of Georgia by profession, served as director of the Peabodys since 1991, during which he oversaw all aspects of the program, from the call for entries to the awards ceremony.
A graduate of City U. of New York and Penn State, Sherman taught journalism history at Western Michigan U. and Penn before joining Grady College in 1981. Grady, the administrator of the Peabodys since 1940, provided an opportunity for Sherman to use the college’s Peabody Archives for research.

Designated as a Stanton Fellow in 1995 by the Intl. Radio and Television Society Foundation, Sherman also created an endowment for the Peabody program.
