Ed Margulies

Ed Margulies, a columnist for the Mr. Showbiz Web site who also served as a co-editor for Movieline magazine, died Tuesday of a heart attack in Los Angeles. He was 48.

Margulies started his career as a publicist, working for United Artists, Rogers and Cowan, PMK, and Stan Rosenfield.

He later acted as the editorial director for the Movieline site and co-authored the book "Bad Movies We Love," with Steve Rebello. The pair also co-hosted a cable TV version of the book.

Margulies is survived by his father, producer Stan Margulies; a brother, Lee, deputy editor of the Los Angeles Times Calendar section; and a sister, Lisa.

Memorial services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Studio Theater on the Paramount lot.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Assn.
