Lambert created KOMU-TV, the NBC affiliate serving Missouri's capital city, in 1953 as a way to train students in broadcast reporting and production. He was the station's first general manager and served more than 20 years as the moderator of Missouri Forum, a public affairs show broadcast on KOMU and on radio stations around the state.
The station is run by the university's School of Journalism and is one of the only journalism school in the country where students serve as the reporters, producers, videographers and anchors of a commercial, network-affiliated TV station. In addition, it produce daily updates online for MSNBC.
Lambert is survived by his wife, Ella, and two daughters.
