Al Hicks

Al Hicks, a longtime freelance writer who worked for several of the big Hollywood studios as a publicist in Europe, died March 7 of heart failure at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital. He was 81.

Following World War II service in the Army Air Corps Signal Corps in North Africa, Hicks (also known as Hix) graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the School of Journalism at USC in 1949.

He wrote for Time and a number of trade papers before moving to Europe in 1952 where he worked primarily worked as a publicist for several studios including 20th Century Fox.

He retired and moved stateside in 1984.

He is survived by his daughter, Nikki; a grandson and a great grandson and great granddaughter.
