Canal 9 head quits

World Brief

The programming director of third-ranked broadcaster Canal 9, Patricia Weber, resigned for personal reasons on Friday after six months in the job.

Canal 9, owned 50-50 by journalist-lawyer Daniel Hadad and publisher Editorial Atlantida, has appointed an advisory committee to run program-ming until a new director can be found.

Weber joined from fourth-ranked America TV to boost ratings in the face of competition from her former em-ployer. She added youth soap opera "Rincon de luz" (Corner of Light) and vigilante-crime drama "Malandras" to the skeds, helping Canal 9 maintain the third spot it took over from America in August.
