EU: No politico pull

World Brief

The European Union's legal watch-dog, the Council of Europe, has or-dered the tiny former-Soviet republic of Moldova to rethink its draft law on public broadcasting after ruling that it allowed political interference in the running of the state television network.

The council does not want the Moldovan parliament to appoint the state TV's managerial board or pass a law requiring the net to broadcast press releases from government ministries.

Moldova is preparing for integra-tion into the EU.
