However, the Disney insider said the renewal wasn't a long-term deal -- implying that Cavallo could be up for renegotiation once again in as little as a year.
Exec founded Buena Vista -- currently home to Hollywood Records, Walt Disney Records, Lyric Street, Mammoth and Walt Disney Music Publishing -- in 1998 to consolidate the conglom's various music-related properties into one entity.
Separately, Walt Disney topper Michael Eisner reiterated his company's intention to "aggressively stay away" from signing gangsta-rap artists, noting that they're not a good "cultural fit" with Disney's family-oriented properties.
Buena Vista had weathered some criticism in 1999 when Hollywood Records released the soundtrack to Fox comedy "the PJs," which included tracks from such hard-edged rap acts as Snoop Dogg and members of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
