The call of the wild echoed through the Beverly Hilton Saturday as animal-loving celebs gathered for the 17th annual Genesis Awards.

The "no-fur" gala served up helpings of animal rights issues as well as a gourmet vegan meal.

"I do eat meat," said Victor Webster ("Bringing Down the House"). "I'm waiting for somebody to slap me across the face for saying that."

For celebs such as Alicia Silverstone, who's been a vegan for the past four years, and Shannon Elizabeth, who became a vegetarian after last year's ceremony, keeping meat off their plates is an everyday affair.

Kudofest, presented by the Humane Society of the United States, honors news and entertainment media in more than 20 categories for exceptional coverage of animal issues.

Also lending their support were Bill Maher, William Baldwin, James Cromwell and Amy Smart.
