William L. Mockbee

William L. Mockbee, 63, a veteran of radio and TV in Boston and Washington, D.C., died of undisclosed causes on December 30. He was 63.

A native of Washington, he worked at a number of radio stations there as on-air talent before moving over to sales and promotions. He spent much of the last three decades in Boston television in a variety of roles from research director to station manager. Among the call letters he called home were Hearst's ABC affil WCVB, indie WMFP and NECN (New England Cable News).

Since 1996 he had been research director for the BUCI television group, a trio of indie stations owned by Boston University.

Mockbee also taught courses on television research, marketing and advertising at Emerson College, Curry College, Massachusetts Bay College and the Northeast College of Communications.

He is survived by a son and a daughter.
