Richard Merrell

Actor and screenwriter Richard Merrell, who performed frequently with his wife of 35 years, Jan Miner, died Sept. 13 of unreported causes in Southbury, Conn. He was 75.

Merrell started his stage career after he left the Navy and studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City. For 12 years he played Herron on daytime's "One Life To Live."

Miner gained fame as Madge, the wise-cracking manicurist in the Palmolive dishwashing liquid commercials.

Merrell and Miner appeared in many plays together, including "The Gin Game," "Night Must Fall," "High Spirits" and "Saturday, Sunday, Monday."
