William P. Gallagher
He served as prexy of the Famous Music Corp. and MCA Music and was an executive with MGM/UA Home Video.
He started his marketing career in 1950 with the record division of CBS, eventually reaching the position of VP for sales and marketing.
In 1968, Gallagher became president of MCA's newly formed music division, where he participated in the launching of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and the marketing of "Tommy."
He later joined MGM/UA Home Entertainment Group, where his merchandising campaign credits included the video release of "Gone With the Wind" and "The Compleat Beatles," along with his marketing series "Great Books On Video" and the "Diamond Jubilee Collection."
Gallagher served on the board of ASCAP and RIAA and was chairman of the Country Music Assn. He also received the NARM award, Music Man of the Decade, and was honored with the Ed Wynn Humanitarian Award in 1974.
A native of Scranton, he attended the U. of Scranton and later received the Purple Heart while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Gallagher is survived by two sons, two daughters and five grandchildren.
