Media Bistro aims to be all things to journalists

Work, play, networking grew out of a simple event

If you work with "content" -- as opposed to "fluff", I presume -- you ought to visit Media Bistro. It started as a networking event organized by Laurel Touby, the site's founder, and has evolved into a news-and-jobs destination for journalists, producers and other media professionals.

The site is a category-busting blend of editorial content, community discussion, job search boards and social /professional events. It offers tips for freelancers pitching specific niches, and, in a decidedly untraditional twist, puts the editor-in-chief's direct phone number on the front page.

They are going through a site redesign associated with the site's new features, www.mediabistro.com/articles/cache/a12.asp, which adds tools like online portfolio hosting and media personals. But as always, the site's bread and butter is its ability to connect folks in the media with each other at the right moment.
