"Sexless," a bittersweet romantic comedy from director Alex Holdridge, took the top prizes at the 10th annual South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, which presented its awards Tuesday evening.

"Sexless" earned both jury and audience awards for narrative feature. Holdridge also stars in pic, the story of two couples who put themselves through hell trying to hold their relationships together. Brian McCormick produced the pic.

Audiences selected Bob Odenkirk's "Melvin Goes to Dinner" best narrative first film. Michael Almereyda received a special jury award for "Happy Here and Now," which stars model-turned-actress Shalom Harlow.

Raising 'Flag'

Jury award for documentary went to "Flag Wars." Directed by Linda Goode Bryant and Laura Poitras, doc follows the conflicts of gay white professionals who move into a black, working-class neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio.

Special jury award for documentaries went to "Jon E. Edwards Is in Love," directed by Chris Bradley and Kyle La Brache. Pic is the story of a self-styled crooner whose real talent lies not in his singing ability but his belief in himself.

Audience award for doc went to Liz Garbus' "Girlhood," with Jocelyn Glatzer's "The Flute Player" receiving audience recognition as docu first film.

Jury award for narrative short went to "Mboutoukou," directed by Victor Viyuoh and David Dill, with a special jury award going to "Family Tree" by Vicky Jenson.

Documentary short jury award went to Ted Gesing's "Nutria." Special jury award went to "Ocularist" by Vance Malone.

'Life' animated

Jury award for animated short went to Jeff Spoonhower's "Intelligent Life," with a special jury award going to "Stiltwalkers" by Sjaak Meilink.

Jury award for experimental short went to Eric Patrick's "Ablution," with a special jury award going to Kristin Pepe's "Powwow."

Jury award for musicvideo went to Precarious Warehaus Dwellers' "Nuttella and Gummi Bear Sandwich" directed by David Zellner. Joel Lava received a special jury award for "Rock Shock" by Roy Davis and Thomas Bangalter.

Although the SXSW Film Festival presented its awards Tuesday, the event runs through Saturday.
