Dimension inks actor Anderson

Thespian starred in 'Barbershop,' 'Kangaroo Jack,' 'Cradle'

Dimension Films has signed a multipic acting deal with Anthony Anderson, preemptively purchasing a pitch with the actor attached to star and enlisting him in its upcoming spoof sequel "Scary Movie 3."

Comedy pitch is based on a story by Anderson and his business partner Adam Glass, who will pen the screenplay. Paul Young and Peter Principato, who manage Anderson and Glass, will produce the project, with the latter duo figuring as exec producers.

'A huge talent'

"We are really excited to be in business with Anthony," said Dimension co-chairman Bob Weinstein. "He is a huge talent who is poised to breakout on his own."

Anderson first gained attention as one of Jim Carrey's three sons in "Me, Myself & Irene," subsequently appearing in such films as "Barbershop," "Kangaroo Jack," "Exit Wounds" and current hit "Cradle 2 the Grave." He also stars with Eddie Griffin and Michael Imperioli in Miramax's fall release "My Baby's Mama," directed by Cheryl Dunye.

'Scary' start

Shooting starts later this month on "Scary Movie 3," with Anderson joining Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards, Jeremy Piven, Simon Rex and Regina Hall for director David Zucker and producer Bob Weiss.

Through their A Squared Prods. unit, Anderson and Glass have worked on a number of projects, including a sitcom created with Marco Pennette for the WB. Anderson will star in the show, which is based on his own life. Skein's pilot has been picked up for a March start.

Dimension co-presidents Brad Weston and Andrew Rona, with exec VP of business and legal affairs Andrew Gumpert, negotiated for the studio. Anderson is repped by ICM and Stone Meyer & Genow, Glass by ICM and Armstrong Hirsch.
