Pacino stages turn on B'way in 'Salome'
Actor joins Tomei under Parsons direction

NEW YORK -- Al Pacino will be coming to Broadway this spring.
The actor, who appeared Off Broadway in the fall in "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui," will be appearing in Oscar Wilde's "Salome." A staged reading was seen earlier this season at the St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn.
Pacino will play Herod, reprising a role he's done before Off Broadway. Marisa Tomei will drop the seven veils in the title role. Estelle Parsons directs.
Pacino and Parsons have been working on a version of Sophocles' "Oedipus Rex" for some time, but that one is not ready for consumption, apparently.
" 'Oedipus' will come later," said producer Robert Fox, who is producing "Salome."
Salome will open April 30 at the Ethel Barrymore Theater for a limited run.
"Enchanted April" had originally been announced to go into the Barrymore. Matthew Barber's new stage adaptation of the classic novel now goes to the Belasco Theater, currently occupied by "Frankie and Johnny," which closed this weekend. "Enchanted April" opens as originally announced on April 29.
