Beacon beckons Helfant
New COO previously at Dimension Films, Sovereign Pictures
Helfant joins chairman Armyan Bernstein and CEO Charlie Lyons. Company signed an overall distribution arrangement with the Walt Disney Co. in December (Daily Variety, Dec. 13) and will release its films under the Beacon Pictures banner.
"We are thrilled to have Michael on board," said Bernstein. "His industry knowledge and personal relationships are phenomenal. He is the ideal executive to help us realize our vision for this company, as we expand the number of films in production and explore related entertainment ventures."
Helfant added, "This is the perfect opportunity for me. It's a great company that has tremendous growth potential. I believe we can build something very special here."
Helfant was previously senior exec VP of Dimension Films, where he oversaw feature film administration, overall talent deals and tax/subsidy arrangements. He has also had positions with Interscope Communications and Sovereign Pictures.
