'10' redo adding up

Edwards, MDP set new version of '79 hit

Writer-director Blake Edwards will direct "10 Again," a remake of his 1979 hit "10," for Mark Damon's MDP Worldwide.

MDP will produce, fully finance and handle worldwide sales rights on the pic, which will begin casting soon. Shooting is skedded to begin in August in the U.K. and at tropical island locations.

"In the 25 years since I made the original, '10' has become synonymous with perfection around the world," Edwards said. "It is one of my favorite films, and though the look will be new, the message is still the same. It's a classic 'grass is always greener' tale --sexy and fun -- that will resonate in today's marketplace."

Added Damon, chairman and CEO of MDP Worldwide: "Blake Edwards is a master filmmaker, a consummate storyteller and genius of the comedy genre. We are delighted to be collaborating with him on '10 Again' and confident that this timeless tale will find a new audience 25 years later."

Edwards' other feature credits include "Victor/Victoria," "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and the Pink Panther series. At AFM, MDP is also repping the Kevin Spacey pic "The United States of Leland," acquired by Paramount Classics; "The I Inside," being distributed by Miramax Films; "11:14," starring Hilary Swank, Rachael Leigh Cook, Barbara Hershey, Patrick Swayze, Colin Hanks and Henry Thomas; and "Monster," based on the true story of serial killer Aileen Wuornos and starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci.
