ShoWest to fete Fisher

Scribe feted for self-titled debut

Antwone Fisher, who turned his moving life story into a motion picture screenplay, has been named screenwriter of the year for ShoWest 2003.

Fisher marked his screenwriting debut with the much-lauded script for "Antwone."

He will be feted at an awards gala set to close ShoWest on March 6. The trade show opens March 3 at the Paris and Bally's hotels in Las Vegas.

Robert Sunshine, chairman of organizer Sunshine Group Worldwide, noted "Antwone Fisher" was first screened at SWG trade show ShowEast in October.

"It is now a double honor to be able to pay tribute to the writer himself," Sunshine said. "He has done an incredible job in telling the world his compelling and courageous story."

Fisher, who continues to work as a professional screenwriter, published a collection of poems in December called "Who Will Cry for the Little Boy." He has also published a memoir, "Finding Fish."
