A 'Scary' two-pic pact

Sheen on board for Zucker's 'Movie'

NEW YORK -- Dimension/Miramax Films has signed Charlie Sheen to a two-picture deal, beginning with a star turn in the third installment of the Gotham-based distrib's "Scary Movie" franchise.

Sheen's next film under the pact will come shortly after anticipated fourth-quarter release of "Scary Movie 3." The second project will be released under the Miramax banner.

The film and TV thesp is no stranger to parody pics. Sheen toplined as Lt. Topper Harley in the Jim Abrahams-directed lowbrow laffers "Hot Shots" and "Hot Shots: Part Deux," and also appeared in the 1993 parody "Loaded Weapon I."

"Charlie's an accomplished actor who will bring his comedic sensibility to this project," said Dimension co-chairman Bob Weinstein. "We're happy that we have a deal with him for both the Dimension and Miramax labels."

"Scary Movie 3," to be helmed by David Zucker ("Airplane!," "Naked Gun"), will follow in the footsteps of its two predecessors in parodying horror pics, recent blockbusters and pop culture as a whole. Dimension co-prexies Brad Weston and Andrew Rona will oversee Sheen's deal for the studio.
