Filmax scares up slate
English-lingo pix will be screened at AFM
Shot in English with an average budget of $5 million, the pics will be introduced to buyers at the American Film Market, said sales and co-productions VP Antonia Nava. AFM runs Feb. 19-26.
Highlights include:
- "Rottweiler," directed by Brian Yuzna ("Re-Animator"), from the novel by Spanish writer Alberto Vazquez Figueroa, about a man pursued by a lethal, apparently indestructible canine. Rolling this summer.
- "Beneath Still Waters," a ghost story based on a 1986 novel by U.S. writer Matthew J. Costello. A director has yet to be attached. Shooting is set to begin in early 2004.
- "The Nun," chiller at the script stage about a nun who comes back from the dead. Shooting is set to begin in early 2004.
- "Romasanta," a period werewolf pic helmed by Paco Plaza, who helmed "Second Name" for Filmax last year. Pic is to go before cameras in June.
Fantastic Factory was created in 1998 by Filmax prexy Julio Fernandez and U.S. producer-director Yuzna to make horror pics for the international market.
Its latest pic, Jaume Balaguero's "Darkness," produced by Yuzna, was a hit in Spain and Italy and a Dimension pickup for the U.S.
