A music site for All tastes
Tune stop can recommend artists, albums
When I'm looking for the perfect album to decompress with, allmusic.com is one of my first stops. Not only does it help me "remember" the details of any recorded music I've ever listened to, it recommends artists and albums I've never heard of that I might also like. For every artist, the site lists roots, influences and followers, allowing you to skip up and down your own musical history timeline. You can also rate an album by various descriptive terms and then look for music that is, for example, "darker," "calmer," or more "emotional" than an album you know and like. It's a fabulous tool to find music that seems to defy traditional genre classification.
The site is fast, and the design is very easy to use, and as for its coverage, it claims to list 575,192 albums, 512,180 people and 36,379 artist links. I had a hard time stumping them, having to resort to obscure Canadian folk songs when even my friend's college band appeared on the site.
The only problem I have with the site is it's sometimes impossible to link to an individual band, album or song, which makes it hard to come back to the site later or to tell a friend to go visit a particular page.
