Par Pix nets 'Five' pitch

Pic concerns jailed NBA player who forms team of inmates

Paramount Pictures has decided to get in the game with "Starting Five," acquiring the sports-themed pitch for Lorenzo di Bonaventura to produce.

Story centers on an NBA all-star who falls from grace and winds up in prison. Once there, he has the chance to redeem himself by putting together a group of inmates to play his former NBA team.

Pitch is being written by Ian Corson and Mark Bacci, who are repped by Gersh and managed by Evolution; their attorney is Eric Feig at Feig Morris.

Deal is the second for di Bonaventura since signing an overall Paramount producing pact in December. He is teaming with Hyde Park's Ashok Amritraj and Jon Jashni to produce "The Next Soldier," a tech-heavy action film (Daily Variety, Jan. 16).
