Stage adds theaters

World Brief

Joop van den Ende, chairman-CEO of the live entertainment group Stage Holding, unveiled plans Wednesday to add two theaters in Germany in the next 18 months.

With eight theaters there now, Stage Holding is already the biggest producer of musicals in the territory, but Van den Ende is on the hunt for sites in the Ruhr Valley and Munich.

Van den Ende also said he was on the verge of signing with a partner in Spain. Plans are to bring "The Lion King" and "Aida" to Spain with its partner Disney Theatricals Worldwide, "Mamma Mia!" with U.K. partner Littlestar and the Really Useful Group's production of "Cats."

Van den Ende, who was one of the co-founders of global production company Endemol, is also in talks to move into Italy and Russia.
