During her long tenure at the net, Dortch -- most recently a senior administrative assistant -- worked to coordinate and implement the net's press tours, affiliate star weekends, media days, satellite tours, upfront presentations and affiliate meetings.
Dortch died the same day CBS was conducting its presentation at the Television Critics Assn.
"It is deeply sad and more than ironic that Joyce passed away in the final hours of a CBS press tour," said Chris Ender, senior veep of communications for CBS Entertainment. "It was a semi-annual event that she was most associated with in the minds of the press corps, which depended on her for information, guidance and, often, marching orders as she skillfully coordinated their activities and movements.
"Joyce was our honored colleague and our very dear friend, and we will miss her terribly."
Dortch spent her entire career at CBS, starting out in 1968 as a senior clerk in what was then known as the press information department. She was tapped to serve as an exec secretary in 1972; in 1988 she was named a senior administrative assistant.
Born in Los Angeles the fifth of seven children, Dortch is survived by four sisters.
Viewing will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Holy Cross Mortuary in Culver City, with a funeral scheduled Friday at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Mortuary Chapel.
Family requests that donations in Dortch's name be made to the American Cancer Society.
