Cavu rolls for 'Holy'

Love story to be released this spring

Gotham-based production and distribution company Cavu Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to Eitan Gorlin's debut feature, "The Holy Land," which won the feature Grand Jury Prize at the 2002 Slamdance Film Festival.

Shot on location in Israel, "The Holy Land" is a love story between a young rabbinical student and a Russian prostitute set during a period of turmoil in the Middle East. Cavu will release the pic this spring.

"The Holy Land" also won the best film award at the 2002 Avignon/New York Film Festival. Gorlin has been nominated for the IFP's 2003 Someone to Watch Award.

Michael Sergio and Isil Bagdadi founded Cavu in 2001. The company's first release was "Under Hellgate Bridge," written and directed by Sergio. Lions Gate Entertainment picked up domestic video rights and foreign rights went to IFM Film Associates.

Cavu plans to produce and release two to three films per year and acquire another three films for distribution.
