Digital Domain has tapped Brad Call as prexy of the f/x facility, as topper Scott Ross focuses his attention on developing and producing the company's own original slate of film projects.
In the new post, Call will continue to serve as the studio's chief operating officer, but new operational duties also put him in charge of Digital Domain's three main divisions -- feature films and theme park attractions, headed by senior veep Nancy Bernstein; commercial and musicvideos, topped by senior veep Ed Ulbrich; and the digital studio, whose stable of f/x artists and technology innovations are overseen by veep Michael Taylor.
Taylor and Call will also be responsible for subsid D2 Software, the separate entity and developer of the Nuke compositing and other proprietary software the company plans to sell to other f/x shops.
Meanwhile, Molly Hanson, former head of business affairs, will take over Call's duties as general counsel.
Under Ross' direction, Digital Domain has spent the past three years developing a slate of pics to produce that include f/x sequences it would also generate internally.
Producing its own pics would help create a new revenue source for the company beyond its traditional work-for-hire f/x services.
Now that the company is beginning to get some traction and set up films at the major studios, Ross, who continues to serve as chairman and CEO of the Santa Monica-based company, will focus full time on the film projects.
