Streets, Dynamite top Brits

Established artist Minogue ignored

LONDON -- Hip-hop artist The Streets and garage star Ms Dynamite nabbed four nominations each at the U.K.'s biggest music competish, the Brit Awards, on Tuesday, beating established artists Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue.

Williams is vying for British male against Badly Drawn Boy, Craig David, David Gray and The Streets, while Minogue is not nominated at all.

Ms Dynamite, who dominated the Mercury Music and the Mobo awards during her rise to fame last year, is nominated for British female against Sophie Ellis Bextor, Beverley Knight, Alison Moyet and Beth Orton. Ms Dynamite is also up for British album, British urban act and British breakthrough artist. The urban category is a new award.

The Streets, the stage name for Birmingham hip-hop artist Mike Skinner, dubbed the English Eminem, is up for British album, British urban act and British breakthrough artist.

Competing for album in the international section is Eminem, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, Pink and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Battling it out for international female are Missy Elliot, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne and Pink. Beck, Eminem, Moby, Nelly and Bruce Springsteen are short listed for international male.

Singer Tom Jones will be awarded a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony in London on Feb 20.
