Gurin, Fox skein putting IQs to 'Test'

Show allows viewers to measure their own intelligence

Reality TV is about to wise up.

The Gurin Co. -- which recently signed on to exec produce NBC's broadcasts of the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants -- will produce a live two-hour primetime IQ special for Fox.

"Test the Nation," a sort of national intelligence test, will air on the network this spring. Program is based on a format from Dutch company Eyeworks Media. Versions of "Test the Nation" have aired in the U.K. and Germany, among other territories.

Show, taped live in a studio, allows everyone watching to figure out his or her IQ. Data compiled from at-home participants will be tabulated to provide a statistical analysis of America's smartest -- and where they live.

"This is the ultimate water-cooler show," Gurin prexy Phil Gurin told Daily Variety, "because the very next morning you're going to know: Is your wife smarter than you, is the assistant smarter than the boss, and are blondes actually smarter than brunettes."

Gurin, whose credits include exec producing NBC's "Weakest Link" and Game Show Network's "Lingo," was just named exec producer of NBC's first broadcast of the Miss USA and Miss Universe telecasts as part of the net's exclusive agreement with Donald Trump to become equal partners in the Miss Universe franchise.
